

Marjorie (Midge) Novotny died October 1, 2017. She was born August 9, 1926, in Galesburg, Illinois, to Ruby and Ralph Hawthorne. She married Albert J. Novotny on August 12, 1950, in Galesburg. He survives.
Also surviving are daughters Susan Webber of Batavia and Janet Dura of Chevy Chase, Maryland, son John Novotny, and four grandchildren: Sarah Webber, Aaron Webber, and Ellie and Katy Dura; one great-granddaughter, Lainey Jane Webber; and two nephews, Doug Hawthorne and Dean Hawthorne. Two brothers preceded her in death.
She graduated from the University of Illinois and was a speech therapist in the public schools of Danville, Cicero, and Galesburg.
She was a member of Lakeview Museum, Peoria Historical Society, Service League of Methodist Medical Center, Crippled Children's Auxiliary, PEO, First Federated Church, Peoria Medical Society Alliance, and Peoria Country Club. She had been a volunteer for many years through Common Place and served on the Common Place Board.
Services will be held at 11:00 am October 7, 2017 at her Church. There will be a fellowship luncheon with friends and family at Peoria Country Club following the service.
Memorials may be made to the Dr. and Mrs. A. J. Novotny University of Illinois Scholarship Fund, College of Medicine, 302 Westside Research Office Building, 1747 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago, Illinois, 60608-1203, to Common Place, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
