Martha Ellen Ackerman

Martha Ellen Ackerman, 100, of Chillicothe IL, formerly of Decatur IL, passed away on Tuesday September 26, 2023 at Arc at Chillicothe. She was born on December 9, 1922 in Peoria IL, a daughter of William Nolte and Martha Ellen (Ball) Nolte. She married Edward Charles "E.C." Ackerman on January 23, 1943 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 9, 2010 in Decatur IL.

Martha is survived by her three sons, John L. (Marianne) Ackerman of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Brent L. (Denise) Ackerman of Chillicothe IL, and Bruce M. Ackerman of Decatur IL; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Decatur and the Spouse and Sparkle Dance Club.

Martha volunteered for 30 years at Decatur Memorial Hospital as a "gray lady". She and her husband, Ed spent many years as snow birds at Trophy Gardens in Alamo, Texas. Martha enjoyed quilting and knitting gifts and donations for others.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria.
