She was born May 28, 1941 in Peoria to Leo B. and Murel (Clater) Goujon. She married Fred J. George, Jr. on November 11, 1967 in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving is one son Joe (Erin) George of Peoria; one sister Leona (Gary) Sleister of East Peoria; one grandson Will; many nieces and nephews, including her godchildren Mary Johnson and Sam Sleister.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Vance and Jack.
Mary worked in her youth as a cashier for A&P and later as a receptionist for C. Iber and Sons. She and Fred co-owned many businesses including George’s Pizza, East Peoria Dairy Queen, George’s Italian Village, and George’s Meat Company.
As a homemaker, mother, aunt, sister, and later grandmother, she enjoyed trying new dishes and was an excellent cook. Pies were a special love for her.
In her lifetime she attended several churches including St. Monica’s Church in East Peoria, Sacred Heart and St. Sharbel Churches in Peoria.
Her friends and extended family supported and strengthened her in her life, during her illness and at her passing. Her family, Joe and Fred are grateful for the kindness and help given to them and Mary. They are graces that equaled the challenges her illness presented.
