

She was born January 22, 1915 in Peoria, IL to Edward and Anna (Kouri) Couri. She married Virgil John George July 20, 1939 in Peoria and was his wife for 49 years until his death January 14, 1989.
She is survived by all five of her children and their spouses: Rita George, Virginia (Tim) Rassi, Bob George, Ron (Pam) George and Steve George. She was a grandmother of nine and a great-grandmother of eight.
Her sister Martha Burke survives Mary. Her parents, one sister, Cecelia LaHood and three brothers, Anthony, Joseph and Dr. Peter Couri, preceded her in death.
Mary was a graduate of The Academy of Our Lady, class of 1932. She was employed as a secretary by Caterpillar Tractor Company for 29 years and retired in 1982.
She was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Catholic Church for over fifty years; Mary was an avid Bridge player and an organic gardener as well as a long time member of the Itoo Society.
The family would like to express a special deep appreciation to the staff of Salem Unit at the Apostolic Christian Skylines for their kindness and loving care of their mother.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 2 pm to 5 pm with a Rosary service at 1:45 pm at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 10:00 am, with visitation half an hour prior to the service at St. Philomenia Catholic Church, Father David Richardson will officiate.
