She was born August 1, 1938 in Greenwood, MS to George and Ora D. (Clark) Staples. She married J.W. Hunt Sr. and he preceded her in death in 2010. Her parents, one son, Micheal Hunt, and three siblings, Ruby Petty, Willie Staples and George Staples.
She is survived by her seven children, Susie (Charles) Jones, J.W. Hunt Jr., Perry (Wanda) Hunt, Doris (Derrick) Ware, Cenetha (Kenneth Sr.) Hill, Reginald Hunt and Rochelle Hunt all of Peoria. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, four siblings, Frank Staples of St. Louis, Acey (Patricia) Staples of St. Louis, Ora "Diane" Gardner of Peoria and Yvonne Staples also of St. Louis; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mattie worked as a cafeteria worker for District 150 for many years before retiring. She was a member of the Church Of The Living God, L.B.L.C. She enjoyed sitting on her porch, shopping with her daughters and granddaughters and spending time with her family.
A private family service will be at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, with burial to follow at Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.
