Minnie "Mona" Cassie Barborinas

Minnie C. “Mona” Barborinas, age 94, of Peoria, passed away Thursday Jan. 1, 2015 at 11:10 a.m. at her residence. She was born Dec. 31, 1920 in Peoria to Martin and Mary (Sinkevich) Yoches. She married Peter Barborinas, Jr. Aug. 10, 1943 at St. Joseph’s Church in Peoria. He passed away Dec. 29, 1997 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Survivors included three daughters: Rita Jean (Dave Augsburger) McMorrow of Chillicothe, Linda (Dennis) Flynn of Columbus, WI, Kristine (Patrick) Roney of Anacortes, WA, three sons: James (Annie) Barborinas of Anacortes, WA, Edward (Darlene) Barborinas of Peoria, and John (Penny) Barborinas of Ignacio, CO, seventeen grandchildren, and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. Mona was a Keypunch operator at Caterpillar for several years. Following her marriage she retired and dedicated her life to her ginormous family. She was an active member of St. Marks Catholic Church for 45 years and Holy Family Catholic Church for 17 years. She was a member of the Catholic Study Club, praying and sharing for 45 years. She was a volunteer at OSF for 28 years: rocked babies for 11 years, then helped with bingo and just three months ago was still helping with stuffing envelopes. She and her husband of 54 years loved to square-dance and polka, travel, and vacation with family and friends in Minnesota. She was proud of her Lithuanian heritage, lived a true romance, and was referred to as “The Queen Mother” by her grandchildren, and Grandma Mona by her great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday Jan. 4, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. A Funeral Mass will be Monday Jan. 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church n Peoria. Additional visitation will be Monday one hour prior to the services at church. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
