

Nickia (Nickie) Maier, 73, of Peoria, Illinois went home to be with the Lord on Sat. Feb 23, 2013. She inspired everyone she came in contact with by her gracious fight with alzheimers.Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria with Pastor Tim Beddingfield officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Chapel. Interment will be at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.Nickia was born on April 18, 1939 to Gus and Iva Genelle Barber in Peoria, IL. She married Dale Maier on Aug 28, 1965. He preceded her in death. Nickia left behind 3 adoring daughters. Debra (Paul) King, Lori (Richard) Lappin, Gale (Dr Bob) Quilleash, 6 grandchildren; James (Jessica) Jones, Jason Goldsmith, Amy Jones, Alicia Goldsmith, Jessica Shepherd, and Addison Quilleash. She was expecting her 1st great granddaughter on Feb 26th.Her passion was being a wife and mother. She was very involved in her daughters and grandchildren’s school activities. She served in a number of ways from being a room mom to attending every possible school function, she loved it all. Because of her loving ways Nickia was called “mom” by many of her daughter’s friends. Summers were spent fishing and playing in the river. In the evening she loved to craft and play pinochle with her in-laws. Travel was a highlight of Nickia’s. She and Dale made several trips to Branson and Las Vegas, with her last trip being Disney World. The home she and Dale built together was open to everyone. They loved to entertain.After her girls were out of school Nickia joined the workforce, employed by Leaves and Beans in Peoria Heights, and Stauffers in Peoria. The highlight of her work experience was the many friends she made over the years. Nickia’s family praise the Lord for the exemplary care given to her by her caregivers, Michelle Gerdes and Mary Myers. Additionally, loving care was provided by Liberty Village over the past 5 years. She had formed special relationships with several of the staff there including Tracy, Bertha, Noreena, Maryland, Quanna, Kim, Carmen, Angie, Tifiny, Lexi, Janita, Angie, Laurie, Lisa, and Marlynda.
