Pauline E. Hayes

She was born March 12, 1917 in Peoria to Alexander and Sophie (Hessler) Mihlof. She married Harold D. Hayes Jan. 6, 1940 in Burlington, IA. He passed away Oct. 5, 2001 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her four sisters: Sophie (Mihlof) Hines, Elsie Mihlof, Frances (Mihlof) Lahr, and Anna (Mihlof) Humphrey. She was also preceded in death by her beloved family pets: Bambi, Smokey, and Buddy.

Polly is survived by her only child and daughter, Dawn Hayes-Yurkovich and her son-in-law, Mel, and several nieces and nephews.

Polly worked as the Office Manager for Knaggs Coal Co. in Peoria Heights for 30 years retiring in 1979. She was a 50 year member of the Peoria Heights Congregational Church. She was also a member of the church Women’s Fellowship, the Peoria Pilot Club, and the Peoria Knife and Fork Club.

Polly was a genuine and caring person and will be greatly missed by her daughter, family and friends.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the Proctor Doctors, Nurses and staff, Vitas hospice, and Comfort Keepers for their compassion and understanding.

Funeral services will be Tuesday Nov. 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Peoria Heights Congregational Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
