

Richard Earl Crowley, 90 of Peoria, passed away Monday, February 1, 2016 at Unity Point Proctor Hospital in Peoria. Born November 16, 1925 in Peoria to Michael V. and Gertrude (Schlobohm) Crowley; he married Velma Strickler on September 14, 1952 in Peoria and she survives. Also surviving are his son, Steve (Colleen) Crowley of Trivoli; two grandchildren, Christopher (Sara) Martin and Ashley Martin (Boris Pletner); five great grandchildren; his sister, Marjorie Hayes of Peoria and brother, Donald G. Crowley of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard “Butch” Crowley and two sisters, Joann Lee and Dorothy Gates. Dick was a lifelong Peorian having graduated from Manual High School and then he owned and operated the Knolls Standard station in Peoria for nearly 25 years until retiring in 1977. He then worked for Peoria School District 150 as the custodian of the Tyng Primary School in Peoria. He will be remembered as a kind, loving and helpful man with a strong work ethic who enjoyed tinkering and fixing things. Dick was a faithful member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Peoria where he enjoyed giving of his time and talents to many service projects at the church grounds. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday, February 4th at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Friday, February 5th at Woodland Chapel with the Rev. Steven Tibbitts officiating. Burial will follow at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials are suggested to his church or to the American Cancer Society.
