

Richard "Dick"G. Schneider, 84, of Peoria. passed away at 1:59 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013 at his daughter's home in St. Louis MO. Dick was born on February 25, 1929 in Bloomington, IL, the son of Minnie Chase. He married LaVerne Grant on December 21, 1950 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on June 1, 2011 in Peoria. He is survived by one daughter, Becky (Melvyn) Jernigan of St.Louis, MO; one daughter-in-law, Terri Schneider of Peoria; three sisters, Shirley Gaines of Bloomington, Patricia (Anderson) Marchant, and Verna Thomas both of Florida; two grandchildren, Jared Schneider, and William Alexander; several nieces and nephews. Dick is alsopreceded in deathby one son, Brian Schneider; one brother Pete Chase; two brother-in-laws, Paul Gaines, and Darrell Thomas. Dick retired from the Peoria Journal Star after 35 years of Service in 1991. He had overseen anestimated 10,000 newspaper Carriers. He beganhis career in 1956 as a district manager overseeing carriers in the city's South Side and downtown areas. After 10 years, he was transferred to the city's north end, where he served an additional six years. He then supervised carriers in the Chillicothe, Henry, Lacon and Sparland areas, for 13 years. During any one time during his career he supervised an average of 100 teen-agecarriers. He was then appointed a zone manager in 1986, where he worked training new district managers. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery.
