Richard (Dick) Thorn

Richard was a deeply devoted family man whose greatest joy was the people he loved. He was a proud and loving husband to his wife, Diane Thorn (Haungs) of 52 years. Also a devoted father to his daughters, Nichol Allen (Brent) and Natalie Lanser (Eric). Nothing brought him more happiness than being “Papa” to his grandchildren—Elijah Lanser, Mara Lanser, Mia Allen, Brady Allen. When they were not playfully reminding him that he was a “silly Papa,” they often turned to him for his guidance and advice.

He is also survived by six siblings Jackie Thorn, Robert Thorn (Meridy), Mark Thorn, Diane Nicholson (Jerry), Jim Thorn (Theresa), and Linda Davies (Paul).

Richard was a proud employee of Caterpillar for 43 years. He spent the majority of his career in engineering, where he was a respected mentor and trusted leader to his colleagues. He later retired as a Product Manager in Electric Power, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, professionalism, and guidance to those he worked with.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Woolsey Wilton Funeral Home, Peoria. A committal service will be held for family only.

Richard will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Alzheimer's Association in Richard’s name.
