Robert E. "Bob" Smith

He was born March 15, 1939 in Kewanee, IL to Clarence Bernard and Mabel (Atha) Smith. He first married Leona E. Grant Nov. 29, 1958 in Kewanee, IL. She passed away Sep 29, 1992 in Peoria. He later married Joanne Smith Oct. 12, 1998 in Las Vegas, NV. She survives along with his two daughters: Lisa (William) Thurman of Sandy, UT, Julie (Charles) Hitt of Madison, WI, four grandchildren: Amanda, Chris, Jarrod, Alex, three step-sons, ten step-grandchildren, and two sisters: Barbara (Jack) Wall of Kewanee, IL, and Catherine (Don) Knox of Ottawa, Il.

Bob worked as a machinist for Midland Coal Co. for 20 years retiring in 1994. Following his retirement he worked part time at Rocket Tire in Peoria. He was a member of the Army National Guard in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, Peoria Elks Lodge # 20, Bartonville American Legion Post 979, the United Mine Workers Union, and the Friends of Fatherless Boys.

Bob was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan. He loved Indy Car racing and woodworking.

Funeral services will be Tuesday May 29, 2012 at 12 Noon at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services.

Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.

Memorials may be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Friends of Fatherless Boys, or St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.
