

He was born February 2, 1948 in Peoria, a son of Robert Gavin and Maxine Taylor Updike Sr. He married the love of his life Teri Paul on December 7, 1975 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one sister, Christine Updike of West Peoria; several nieces and nephews; and a lot of friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran.
In his early years he worked as a musician playing around town with Big John and the Mark IV.
Robert worked at Kemp Manufacturing in Peoria Heights for 30 years retiring in October 2009.
He was a member of Illini Muzzle Loader’s, Illinois Bow Hunters, and the NRA.
He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria where he was an usher, served communion, and was honored to head the Food Pantry. He believed no one should go with out food and water.
Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. He love to hike, mushroom hunt, antler hunt, hunt for arrowheads, and he especially loved deer and turkey hunting. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria. Rev. James A. Bettermann and Rev. Mark J. Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria and one hour prior to the service at church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of ashes will be at a later date with family.
