He was born December 28, 1942 in Peoria to LeRoy and Mary (Tometich) Zimmerman. Ron’s father was killed in 1944, during WWII in Normandy, France. He married Connie Bannon on July 10, 1999 at St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington, IL. His beloved wife Connie survives along with two children who Ron loved dearly: Zebulon (Kyley) Zimmerman of Erie Co., and a daughter, Zoe (John) Grad of LaGrange Park, IL. Also surviving are three cherished grandchildren: Vivienne Grad, Odin Zimmerman, and Freyja Zimmerman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his step-father, Jerry Mason.
Ron graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. After college, Ron was employed at Caterpillar, Inc. He worked in Caterpillar Americas Services as Director of OEM Truck and Bus Sales, covering all of Latin America. He loved international travel and lived in cities Bogota, Mexico City, Winnipeg, Montreal, and Beirut. He retired from Caterpillar after 42 years of dedicated service. His hobbies included golf, skiing, tennis, photography, and watching all sporting events. He also loved Corvettes. He enjoyed vacationing during the winter months in St. Petersburg, FL.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral home in Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.
Private entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria.
Memorials in Ron’s memory may be made to the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington, of which Ron was a member.
