

Sally was born on February 8, 1933 in Connersville, IN to Robert Nelson Hera and Mary W. Griffith. She married Merle E. Carr on August 1, 2000.
Surviving are her husband, Merle; her son, Ted E. Stephens; two daughters, Vickie L. Richards and Lisa A. Stephens; 10 grandchildren, two of which are Peoria Police Officers; 16 great-grandchildren; four half-sisters, five half-brothers, two step-sons, one step-daughter, six step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Cherie L. Johnston; one half-sister and a step-grandson.
Sally worked as a secretary for both bank and insurance agencies in the area for about 25 years, retiring in 1997. In her early years, she served as a girl scout leader for the Girl Scouts of America and as a Methodist youth Sunday school teacher. Later, she became a member of Richland Bridge SDA Church of Chillicothe and a later member and Sabbath School Secretary at the Peoria Knoxville SDA Church. Sally enjoyed knitting, flower gardening, cooking, music and especially reading. She and her 10-yr-old daughter, Cherie, were privileged to spend several weeks in Greece at her grandfather’s home in 1962.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 3pm at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Parkview Mausoleum in Peoria. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made through www.davison-fulton.com
