

She was born on December 5, 1939, in Peoria, to Ralph and Joyce (Shoff) McBride. They preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Earp and Susan Greenwalt; granddaughter, Morgan Ciota; and daughter in law, Paula Veazey.
Sharon was a kind mother to Matthew Ciota, Liz (Rich) Faron, Tom (Karen) Ciota, Nathan (Julie) Ciota; and a loving Granny to Thomas Ciota Jr., Cannon (Florence) Ciota, Sharadyn (Dylan) Futrell, Sean Faron, Joe Faron and Ben (Alison) Veazey.
She was a graduate of Manual High School and Bradley University receiving her Master's degree in 1987. She retired after 25 + years from Bradley University College of Engineering.
Sharon was a proud person with a lifetime of community involvement. Starting with Cub Scout Pack 11 in the late 60’s. In 1970 she founded the West Peoria 4th of July Parade and Flag Raising Ceremony - the longest running Independence Day Parade in Illinois. She was an organizer for the Annual West Peoria Veterans Memorial ceremony.
Sharon represented the city of West Peoria as a CityLink Transit Board member for over 27 years, and was recognized as the APTA Outstanding Public Transportation Board Member in 2020.
She was a columnist for the Community Word Newspaper, a West Peoria Township Trustee through 1985-1996, a member of West Peoria Zoning Board and involved with the Western Ave Greenway Committee.
Sharon was a faithful parent booster for Calvin Coolidge Grade School, Manual High School and Peoria Senior Summer Band.
Sharon had countless friends and was well loved. She touch the hearts of many; Bradley Students and faculty, her Cub Scouts, CityLink colleagues, members of APTA, and her West Peoria neighbors.
Sharon’s words of wisdom, dry humor, community involvement, and continuous support will be missed. She was warm hearted and caring. Always connecting with everyone she meets.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 15th, from 12pm-6pm at the Peoria Elks Lodge, at 1 Elks Drive, Peoria, IL, 61604.
