Shirley Linn Schafer

She was born on August 9, 1947 in Peoria to Edward and Virginia (Plowman) Stewart. She met George L. Schafer, Sr. in junior high and they married on July 1, 1965 in Peoria.

Shirley is survived by her husband George of West Peoria; daughter, Denise Helmantoler-Schafer of Mackinaw; grandchildren, James (Amber) Towle of Mackinaw, Breanna Helmantoler of East Peoria, George L. Schafer (Molly) III of Peoria Heights, and Sarah Schafer of Naples, FL; great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Rodriguez of Naples, FL, Ava and Francis Tagham of Chillicothe, and Hazel Schafer of Peoria Heights; brothers, Richard (Lois) Shaw of Lakeland, FL and Ricky (Michelle) Stewart of Morris; and sisters, Peggy Hanson of O’Dell and Judy Frazier of Magnolia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, George L. Schafer, Jr.; grandson, David P. Schafer; brothers, David and Terry Stewart; and sisters, Penny Sherman and Linda Bockman.

In her free time, Shirley enjoyed reading and crafting, with stained glass and crocheting being her favorite. She cherished her family and time spent with them.

It was Shirley’s wish to be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
