She was born July 4, 1923 in Primberton, Ohio to James and Mattie (Wilson) Clutts. She married Olen Chapai on April 12, 1942 in St Charles, Missouri. He passed away January 21, 2000 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two daughters: Candace Chapai, Betty Reatherford, five sisters, two brothers, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include four children: Myrna Robb of Bartonville, George Chapai of Peoria, Barbara (Kenny) Crew of Lacon, James Chapai of Washington, 15 grandchildren, and numerous great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Velma worked in the Kitchen at Bel-Wood Nursing Home for several years. She was a member of the Friendship House Senior Club, Salvation Army Home League, Salvation Army Senior Club, and volunteered with bulk mailing through RSVP in Peoria.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Stella Strubhar will officiate.
Entombment will be in Parkview Cemetery Chapel of Peace Mausoleum.
