Virginia Ann (Moser) Hoerr, 93, of Peoria passed away on March 1, 2020, surrounded by loved ones at Apostolic Christian Skylines, Peoria. Virginia was born in Morton, Illinois to Ben and Anna Moser on October 5, 1926. She attended Morton schools and worked for Caterpillar after graduating high school. After losing her mother Anna in 1944 and only 17 at the time, Virginia stepped into a mothering role with her three siblings. On March 14, 1948, she married James Hoerr of Peoria and they built quite an amazing life together. A woman of many talents, she found the greatest joy pouring herself into the lives of her six children and their spouses, 23 grandchildren, and 34 great grandchildren. Praying daily for each of her family members by name was something she took quite seriously, and there has been much fruitfulness as a result. She was an encourager and champion for her family, gently nudging each of them to hear God’s voice and seek out His grand purposes for their lives. She was a quiet, yet strong voice of compassion, and a terrific complement to her husband Jim. She savored time with her children, the grands and great grands – creating years of memories along the way. When asked to recall their favorite memories of Grandma, several of the grandkids have remarked, “there are simply too many!” So true. Virginia was full of kindness and generosity, warmly embracing all in her circle of influence. She personified the love of Jesus, whether it was volunteering at the Apostolic Christian Skylines Home with bingo or bowling, sewing for World Relief, taking the grandkids to Wildlife Prairie Park, or baking a pie for a charity event. In fact, her pies are world renowned, and thankfully, the recipes have been successfully passed on her to the second and third generations. She was preceded in death by her parents Ben and Anna, her stepmother Marie, her sister Betty, her husband Jim, and quite a few others. That’s what 93 years will do for you! She is survived by her children Joyce (John) Benko, Dianne (Happy) Leman, Nancy (Brian) Harvey, Benjamin (Tina) Hoerr, Timothy (Toni) Hoerr, and Nathan (Suzanne) Hoerr, her sister Doris (Leon) Kuntz and brother Robert (Barbara) Moser. She also leaves to cherish her memory 23 grandchildren: Mimi McFaul, Seth Bradley, J.D. Leman, A.J. Leman, Julie Yoder, J. Leman, Cory Leman, Alli Burkholder, Blake Harvey, Blaine Harvey, Emily Pool, Jenna Hoerr, Philip Hoerr, Casey Hoerr, Alyssa Kolb, Audra Wilson, Kaley Hoerr, Austin Hoerr, Evan Hoerr, Chad Hoerr, Annie Hoerr, Jaylea Wisner, Avery Wisner, and 34 great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the great staff and residents at Apostolic Christian Skylines for your love, care and hospitality. Mom absolutely loved living at Skylines and appreciated you deeply as her supportive, caring community. We’re also grateful to the OSF Hospice Team for their compassionate, skillful assistance in care for our mom, as well as the AC Skylines Home Care Team for your skillful and loving assistance in care for our mom. Visitation will be held at Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home, 2408 West Willow Knolls Dr, Peoria, on Monday, March 9, 2020, from 4 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held on at 10 am on Tuesday, March 10 with visitation from 9 to 9:45 am at the Apostolic Christian Church, 3420 Sheridan Rd, Peoria, Illinois, where Virginia was a member for seven decades, with church ministers officiating. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery on S.R. Route 150, Edwards, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Apostolic Christian Skylines or Harvest Call (www.harvestcall.org). Condolences may be left in Virginia’s online guest book www.woolsey-wilton.com.

What a beautiful obituary for a beautiful woman! I will always remember her smile and kind spirit. I had the pleasure of running into her at Skylines this winter...though it's been years since we've lived in Peoria, Virginia recognized me and waved me to come over so she could say hi and meet my kids. She was also a very special and good friend to my husband's grandma, Madelyn Fehr. Prayers for your family as you rejoice and mourn the loss of a very dear lady. (Love especially to Nancy and Brian, Alli and Cody, and Beaners!) :)
Love, Emily and Shayne, Brady, Maddie, Eva and Callan Fehr

Your mother was indeed the embodiment of a Proverbs 31 woman, so kind, loving, prayerful and supportive. I was a college roommate of Peggy Thomas Cooke. I know Virginia and Mazie were very good friends. My mom also loved Virginia and was so glad to visit with her when they would meet. You certainly have our deepest sympathy in her passing. May our Lord comfort you now and in the days to come and help to fill the vacancy that remains in your family circle. Sincerely, Harold & Judy Hodel Sauder (Roanoke)

We have many fond memories of Jim & Virginia. One that just came back to me (Ron) was when I was very new in Peoria, working at CAT. While my boss was getting acquainted with me he asked what church I attended. When I told him the Apostolic Christian Church he said, "Isn't that where the Hoerr's go also?" I told him that it was and he said, "They are truly amazing people! I love the way they run their business." And we know that behind many successful men are wives who are equally successful in their own right. Virginia was truly a blessing to us during our time in Peoria many years ago!

I had the good fortune of meeting Virginia while presenting different programs for the residents at the Apostolic Skyline Home. My dad has resided there since 2016 and I spoke with Virginia on various occasions. She was always so personable. The photograph which accompanies her obituary is representative of her kind and affable demeanor. I always felt happy after seeing her. She had a becoming presence about her. I am sorry to learn of her demise. I will miss her smile. Having read her obituary it is apparent that I was afforded frequent glimpses of a woman of sincere character and strength. I'm sorry our conversations were only fleeting. Those who truly knew her were the lucky ones.

Virginia was a wonderful Christian lady and will be greatly missed by her church family. I was blessed to have her for a dear friend /mentor and enjoyed our talks at church and Skylines. She was thoughtful, loving and wise and had a sweet sense of humor that made me laugh!
Bob and I are in Florida and sorry we won’t be able to attend the funeral but plan to listen online. We are thinking of Virginia’s family and pray you feel peace knowing she is with her Jim and Jesus now!

There are too many great memories to list but just to list a few I will especially miss her ideas for topics and stories at Social Saturday at AC Skylines. She was such a joy to be around and always uplifted the mood at every activity she joined. I will miss her warm smile and hugs. She was exceptional at both.
I want to extent my prayers and loving thoughts out to the family at this difficult time. I also want to thank them for sharing her with all of us at Skylines. She prayed for us too. What a wonderful lady. I just can't say enough. God Bless

My sympathy to Virginia's immediate family and especially to Leon & Doris Kuntz and Robert & Barbara Moser and their families. I first remember Virginia (and Jim) from World Relief work. Her friendship was evidenced in her smile and kindness. What a wonderful Christian example she was!

Thank you so much for being my morning inspiration. Being your housekeeper at Apostolic Christian Skyline was such a pleasure. I will miss your smile and our great amazing talks we've shared. I can still remember our laugh we've had about your memories traveling all over the world with your beloved Husband. I will continue to keep your Family in prayer. Thanks for sharing your Mother with Us!! She was loved dearly.

Such great memories of our Moms’ wonderful friendship! I can still see them walking together and I’m sure they are walking in Heaven. Our families had such wonderful times together. As couples our parents enjoyed an amazing relationship also. I am so sorry for your loss. What an incredible inspiration she was! Prayers for all of you. I am sorry but I will not be able to attend her services as I am in FL for the winter.
Love,
Lois
