Virginia (Rosenbaum) Monroe, of Peoria, was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother during her faithful life of 92 years. She passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on October 31, 2021 where she will now be singing a new song for Him.
Virginia was born May 18, 1929 in Peoria, IL to Richard and Edna (Specht) Rosenbaum. A blind date led to love and her marriage of Ira Monroe on October 9, 1949. He survives. One daughter Janis (William) Russell of Peoria, IL, two grandchildren; Brad (Leann) Russell of Fishers, IN and Shelley (Gideon) Bicksler of Peoria, IL and five great grandchildren brought much joy to Virginia's life. One brother, Richard Rosenbaum preceded her to heaven. His wife Marian remains as well as several nieces and nephews.
Early in life, Virginia developed a beautiful singing voice and could accompany herself on the piano. She sang live on WMBD's Juvenile Theater at a young age. She also sang in her school and church choirs and had a lifelong love of music. After graduating from Woodruff High School in 1947 she worked for Wahlfeld's Lumber Co, Films for Christ, and was an Avon representative.
This year Virginia and Ira celebrated 72 years of married life. Their Godly marriage was an example of love and devotion to many. They were avid Peoria Chief fans, square dancers, pinochle players, and spent many years researching the Monroe and Rosenbaum genealogies. They also rarely missed a family members sporting event.
If you talked with Virginia, you received a compliment. She had the gift of encouragement and was very complimentary always seeing the good in others. She will be remembered for her love of family, her jubilant laughter, and her ever growing relationship with Jesus. A favorite saying of hers comes from Romans 8:37 "We are more than conquerors, we are victors!"
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel.
