EAST PEORIA- Wilma Lou (Maurer) Honegger, age 81, formerly of Far Hills, East Peoria, IL, passed away Monday August 6, 2018 at the Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria, IL. She was surrounded by her loving family. Although she endured many years with Alzheimer’s disease, her gracious and gentle spirit remained.
Wilma was born January 25,1937 to Alphia and Clara (Heinold) Maurer in Fairbury, IL.
On August 14, 1954 she married her high school sweetheart, John Honegger. They were married for 62 years until John’s death October 30, 2016.
Together, John and Wilma provided a loving Christian home for their three children who survive them: Jill (Robert) Gangloff, Michael (Diane) Honegger and Gina (Gary) Kempf.
They were also blessed with nine grandchildren; Jenny (Billy) Schick, Luke (Amanda) Gangloff, Andrew (Rachel) Honegger, Adam (Kimberly) Gangloff, Tyler (Erika) Kempf, Ryan (Keighley) Kempf, Paige (Chase) Reatherford, Dane Kempf, Shannon (Caleb) Brachbill, and eleven great-grandchildren; Willow, Ella, Tate, Camden, Irelyn, Cole, Crew, Abigail, Lennox, Samuel and a great-granddaughter due in Nov.
Wilma grew up with four brothers and four sisters. Preceding her in death were Ray Maurer, Donald Maurer, Helen Zimmerman, Dorothy Hoffman and DeLoris Thomas.
She is survived by Gladys Koehl, Howard (Eileen) Maurer and Larry (Becky) Maurer.
Wilma will be remembered for her thoughtful, encouraging ways and how she cherished her family and friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and always enjoyed each baby that she could hold.
Wilma was a member of the Peoria Apostolic Christian Church where she faithfully served the Lord and her church family. Her funeral will be at 10:00 Monday, August 13, 2018 at her church with church ministers officiating. Visitation will be 2pm until 5pm Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the Davison Fulton Woolsey Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria and from 9 until 9:45am Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Edwards, IL.
