Alf will be dearly missed by his wife and best friend of 73 years, June (“Nee” Riches); loving and devoted father to Brenda (Dave) and Larry (Christine, predeceased 2019); cherished grandpa to Brent (Tracy), Christopher (Jenn), Chase (Katt), Clayton, and Cole; proud great-grandpa of six; and beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. The family also wishes to acknowledge Doug (Lana), whom they consider close family.
Alf was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Caroline, and his six siblings: Elsie, Leona, Walter, Jean, Pearl, and Florence.
Born on the family farm in the Ganaraska (Pontypool) area, Alf was a young lad when his family moved to Peterborough. He had a natural talent for working with his hands and math came easy to him which shaped his career.
He worked for many years as a lead hand building cedar strip boats and canoes at the Canadian Canoe Company, before transitioning into aluminum siding, soffit, fascia, and eavestrough installation.
In 1975, Alf and June opened the doors to their new business, Alf Curtis Home Improvements Inc., which continues to serve the community today.
Alf had many friends, including two close companions: Joe Carr (employee and friend) and Jimmy Shaughnessy (lake trout fishing buddy), both predeceased. We can picture the three of them reminiscing over a cold pint.
Alf lived by the motto: “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.”
He will live on in our hearts and memories forever.
The Curtis family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at PRHC and the Fairhaven Riverside Special Care Unit for their devoted care.
