Anne-Marie Docherty

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Anne-Marie Docherty (née Goguen), age 81, of Peterborough, Ontario, on January 31, 2026. She passed away peacefully at home with her dear sister, Alice Stoynoff, by her side.

Anne-Marie was born on March 20, 1944, in New Brunswick to David and Rosalie Goguen, one of fourteen children. From a young age, she learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and devotion to family.

She is lovingly reunited with her children, Donald McLaughlin and Carol Banks, and her beloved grandson, Adam McLaughlin.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son Albert McLaughlin (Tracey); her daughter Shelley Langendoen (Steve); her son-in-law Dave Banks; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Anne-Marie was a woman of unwavering spirit and kindness. Whether offering a warm meal, a place to stay, or mending clothing, she was always ready to help. She will be remembered for her strength through life’s many challenges — moving more than a thousand miles from home as a single mother of four, later returning to care for her aging parents, and courageously fighting and overcoming throat cancer.

In her final years, she faced complications from past treatments, but she never gave up. She left this world on her own terms, with pride and grace.

Anne-Marie’s life was rooted in love, faith, and family. Her kindness, resilience, and gentle yet fierce spirit touched all who knew her. We are better for having known her, and we will love her always.

A service to honour Anne-Marie’s life will be held at Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains at 310 Hunter Street West on Saturday, February 28, beginning at 1:00 p.m. for a time of reflection and viewing of the urn, followed by the service from 1:30–2:30 p.m. A reception will follow at Knights of Columbus from 2:30–5:00 p.m.
