It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Samuel Armstrong announce his passing at 97 years of age on December 31st, 2021. He will be sadly missed by his wife Joyce (nee Grills) and children, Jewell (Richard) Kennedy, Crystal (Bruce McLean), Kent and Neil (Brigitte). He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Chantelle Kennedy, Cameron and Malcolm McLean and Connor and Ryan Armstrong.
Doug was born in Peterborough Ontario to May (nee Shearer) and Preston Armstrong and was married to Joyce for 62 years.
Doug was predeceased by the sisters he adored, Hilda Drummond, Edith Philips, and Jean Neilson.
Doug lived his life as a devoted dairy farmer working Flagstone Farm on the Esson (5th) Line in Otonabee for 73 years. He did have a special affection for cats and dairy cows, with names for every single one on the farm! Doug was always ready to help neighbours as needs arose. His last 24 years were spent in the village of Keene in retirement, continuing to invent solutions to whatever needed to be fixed. Doug and Joyce were able to enjoy long trips in Canada and the US with Doug relishing in reading the maps.
Doug was a member of Keene United Church.
Special thanks to Carol Berridge and Gayle Wright for their care and assistance in Doug’s wish to pass at home.
A service and reception will be scheduled at the Keene United Church once Step 2 Restrictions are lifted in Ontario.
Donations to the Keene United Church and to the Hospice Peterborough Circle of Caring in support of their palliative team can be made online through the funeral home at www.AshburnhamFuneral.ca
