Aunt Eileen had an impact on my life even before I was born.  After the birth of my parents' first child, Diane, Eileen came to stay with them as her sister-in-law; Loretta did not have much experience with babies.  Once I was born David and Loretta had some parenting experience but still turned to Eileen and Alex  they were my Godparents.  So she was an important person in my life from the very beginning. 
My family celebrated my father's fiftieth birthday at Eileen and Cecil's in Oshawa by going to see an Oshawa Generals game.  The highlight was definitely having the chance to see the young defenseman, Bobby Orr.  
Not all of our shared experiences were happy ones though. When my mother died in 1971, Aunt Eileen came to help out.  I was seventeen at the time and very grateful to have her with us.  Her love and support helped myself, my father, Diane and Paul through an incredibly difficult time. 
Before I married my husband Bob in 1974 Aunt Eileen and Margaret hosted a bridal shower for me.  Many of my mother's friends and cousins came.  She also baked our wedding cake  a very thoughtful and welcome gesture.  
After we married Bob and I moved to Thunder Bay and Aunt Eileen came to visit on four different occasions. She had an excellent memory and extraordinary recall of people and events. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing her tell stories about my father when he was young and learning about our extensive family connections.  It was good to spend time with her.  
She was a very talented knitter and when our daughter, Shannon was born, Aunt Eileen knitted a beautiful white blanket as a gift. It's in my cedar chest waiting for the next generation.  
As we all know the Kinmount Fair was always a highlight at the end of each summer.  Eileen's family gathered at her Crystal Lake cottage after the fair for corn on the cob, chili and a few hands of euchre at the big kitchen table.  I know that Eileen enjoyed her time at the cottage.  She always seemed to be more at home in Galway.  
My family came back to Southern Ontario in the late 80's.  We started spending Boxing Day with Aunt Eileen and Margaret's family.  This became a great part of our Christmas celebrations. Eileen had a deep faith in the teachings of the Catholic faith and believed in a loving God.  
My family was fortunate to share Aunt Eileen's life with her.  She will be deeply missed but the memory of our chats and good times spent together will be with me forever.

Grandma Cecil, I have so many wonderfully fond memories of spending time with you at the cottage in Kinmount and in Oshawa.  As a child, I always looked forward to the Kinmount Fair and having chili at the cottage afterward.  I proudly wore all of your knitted mittens and enjoyed the bond we had when you tried teaching me to knit too.  You blessed our Earth and had a full and happy life for 96 years.  Not everybody gets to know their great grandparents, so my children were so lucky to have known and appreciated you, often asking, "When can we go see Great Grandma Cecil?"  You will always have a special place in my heart and I will miss you.  It brings me joy that Grandpa Cecil, Aunt Di, and Tippy now get to be with you again.  Love you, Grandma.  I will always love you.  Deborah and Chris, Riley, Madilynn, Ryerson, and Emmalynn.
