(Retired French Schoolteacher)
Our family’s world grew smaller with the sudden but peaceful passing of our much loved and loving matriarch at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Wednesday October 5, 2022. Daughter of the late Henry and Jeanette Farrell. Pre-deceased by husbands Clarence Whitney(1948-1996) and Heinz Jungnickel(2000-2014), daughter Sharon Dowdall(Jack d.) and Trudi’s seven siblings. Big sister to Ghislaine Holek(Tony) and brother Norman Farrell(Muguette).
Loving mother of Donna Bolam(Craig d.), Richard(Linda) and Shawn Whitney. Proud grandmother of 10 adoring grandchildren: Tanya Dowdall, Jodie Runyan(Damon), Amie Dowdall(Anita), Danielle Dowdall, Lynda Newman(Joe), Ben Bolam(Leigh), Christopher Bolam(Dawn), Allison Whitney, Jake Whitney(Stephanie), Keegan Whitney and 8 great grandchildren: Taylor Ferreira, Cai Bolam, Elliott Bolam, Emma Bolam, Zachary Bolam, Caleb Bolam, Elly Whitney, Ruby Runyan.
She will be fondly remembered by Randy and Blayne Brethour, Debbie Graham and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her friendships with Guy Aiello and Bill Hockridge while living at Summit Terrace fostered lasting relationships. She was loved and adored by the staff and residents during her 6 years stay at Summit. At the age of 88yrs. she remained enthusiastic about teaching French to the residents and helping the office staff. An organizer right to the end. Many French students responded to “Madame Whitney’s” engaging and memorable approach to teaching.
Our mother’s smile warmed every one’s heart regardless of how little or how much time she spent with you. There is no better epitaph inscribed in the hearts of family and friends than our mother’s “forget-me-not” kind of love. Life was tough and so was our mom. The stroke may have taken her memory but never her heart and love for her family and others.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to her pastor Brother Terry Crawford, careproviders Janet Nichols and Jane Langlotz for their kind and generous support during these past eight months, and to the PRHC emergency staff for creating a thoughtful and caring palliative environment that made for a most peaceful and loving send-off for our mother and our family.
Friends will be received at the COMSTOCK-KAYE LIFE CELEBRATION CENTRE 356 Rubidge Street from 11:30-12:30 pm Friday October 21, 2022 followed by a Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Hospice Peterborough or the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
