April 23, 1935 – December 7, 2025
Ross passed away peacefully on Dec. 7, 2025 at the Peterborough Hospice in his 91st year. He is survived by his loving wife, of an astounding 69 years, Betty (née Cox), his children David (Laurie), Michael (Amanda), Richard (Jo Ann), Linda (Robert), and by his six loving grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Ross will be missed for his infectious friendly manner, his quick-witted sense of humour, and his positive outlook on life. He could often be heard quoting the immortal words of famed philosopher Alfred E. Newman “What, me worry?”
Professionally, Ross rose through the ranks of the paper sales and management business starting in Toronto, then to Kingston, London, and ending up in Peterborough in 1973. His entrepreneurial spirit got the best of him and in the late 70's started “Ross Verner Wholesale” supplying paper, school supplies, and toys and games to many stores and school boards throughout Southeastern Ontario.
Ross's community involvement would put most of us to shame. He was a member of the Rotary Club for over 60 years, helping to spearhead and plan many of their charitable initiatives. He attended Edmison Heights Baptist Church for over 50 years and served on the board of the church in many roles. He also volunteered his time to other organizations such as Crime Stoppers, the Telecare Distress Centre of Peterborough, and Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
The family will receive friends at the Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Rd., Peterborough on Friday, December 19th from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service celebrating Ross's life will take place at Ashburnham Funeral Home on Saturday, December 20th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Peterborough Rotary Club.
The family would like to thank Heather Young and her team at Canterbury Gardens for their wonderful care of Ross over the last six months. They would also like to thank Jenn Patteson and Samantha Draper for their kind and loving help caring for Dad over the past year.
