James "Jim" Boyd Young

February 18, 1943 – December 12, 2025

On December 12, 2025, Jim passed away peacefully at the age of 82 at Peterborough Regional Health Center, surrounded by love.

Dear Dad to Nicole (Kyle) and Grandpa to Nyle. Deeply missed by his sister Helen (Larry), brother-in-law John, nephew Richard (Melinda), niece Cheryl (Florian), and great-nephews and nieces Corbin, Chase, Athena and Lexi.

He was preceded in death by his beloved partner Shirley McCormack. Also predeceased by his sister Dorothy, and parents Loyal and Betty Young.

Jim’s childhood in Bliss Landing, B.C. established lifelong passions for nature, boats and diving. A knack for making things, from a sailing raft to Meccano devices, would lead on, via high-school in Powell River, to an Electrical Engineering degree from U.B.C. and a fulfilling career with Canadian General Electric in Peterborough. In retirement, his interest in technology remained keen: this year’s project was to be solar panels for the roof.

Thanks to staff of Peterborough Regional Health Center, the Parkinson’s support group, and the Peterborough Field Naturalists for care, support and friendship.

A memorial service will be held at the Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough on Tuesday January 6, 2026 at 11:00 am.
