Jamie was born in 1973 in Toronto at Humber River Hospital. He always lived at home surrounded by family. At first with his Dad Jerry and Mom Joan (d.2007) and for the last 17 years also with his sister Jolene, her husband Kimmo and their three children, Nicole, Noah and Cooper.
Jamie was born with Down’s Syndrome, but in his younger years, didn’t allow that to slow him down. He was hell on wheels from the moment he woke up to the time he went to sleep.
He had many health issues over the years. Although he never complained, he went through more procedures and hospital stays than any one person should have to endure. At one point he was confined to a wheelchair, but that didn’t stop him. He could pop a wheelie like no other. And when that got too much for him- he would scoot around on the floor to get where he was going. He was relentless in everything he did. If he didn’t want to do something- he didn’t- and if he did- well watch out- he’d run you down if you didn’t get out of the way. That ferocious spirit is what kept him going all these years.
Thank you to all the staff and friends that we’ve met over the years that have cared for Jamie at his day programs. First in Toronto at Vita, then Community Living York Central and finally Community Living Trent Highlands.
His caregivers at his day programs deeply cared for him and loved him and he was so fortunate to have such a great support system.
The world, and most certainly this house, will not be the same without him.
We take comfort in the fact that he is now reunited with many grandparents gone and his mother Joan. But we will miss him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Living York Central in Jamie's name.
