

Peacefully at the PRHC on Monday, May 8th, 2023 with his wife and children at his side in his 83rd year. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Perry and Edna (nee Thompson) Young and brother Karl, all of Belleville. He is survived by his sister Sally-Anne Knight of Belleville. He leaves behind his adoring wife Catherine (nee Rorabeck) of 59 years less a day. Also left behind are his children Robert Young of Ottawa and Joanne Haacke (Dave) of Peterborough. Most cherished grandfather of Alyssa (Kevin), Erin, Ryan, Holly, Shannon and Lindsay. Great-grandchildren Weston, Wylder, and Maxine will miss him dearly. A loved uncle to Judy, Crystalyn, Sally-Jo, Andrew, and Ellen. His family will remember him for his strong work ethic, sense of humour, huge hugs, love of family, immense kindness and generosity, and his extraordinary popcorn-making skills. Friends will remember him for his dedicated years in the welding gas industry, love of baseball and hockey, and the many adventures shared on cruises and under palm trees in Florida. He continues to cheer on the Leafs from above. Friends may call at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Rd., Peterborough, on Thursday, May 11th, from 6 – 8 p.m. A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held at St. Mark’s United Church, 90 Hunter St. East, on Friday at 1 p.m. Visitation 1 hour prior. As per Richard's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment will follow at a later date. If desired, donations can be made in Richard's name to Mark Street United Church or a charity of your choice. Cathy, Rob and Joanne would like to thank the staff at Peterborough Regional Health Centre for their kindness and caring especially: Dr. May (E.R.), Dr. Brodie, and the ICU Staff (apologies for any missed) including: Dr. Rice, Dr, Kammila, Amber, Melissa, Taylor, Ashley, Jeremy and Mel. We are especially grateful for those with us in the final hours and are so appreciative of the compassion you shared with the family.
