Joan Harriet Gilroy

Joan died comfortably at home, surrounded by her family, on September 22, 2025 at age 80. She was predeceased by her husband Wayne and later, partner Bill Burley. She is survived by her daughters Sherry Gilroy and husband David Hall and Suzanne Gilroy and husband Joe Siracusa. Her grandson Nicholas Gilroy was the light of her life. Joan was one of five children born to Lewis and Harriet McMullin (both deceased): Stan McMullin and his wife Christina, Carl McMullin and his wife Magela, Anne Mueller and her husband Dan, and Katherine Hebert and her husband Steve. She adored her nieces and nephews, honorary grandsons Luke, Nick, and Greg, and she will be fondly remembered by her good friends and in-laws, Donna Faye and John Bruce. One must never forget the pets...granddogs Daisy and Cedar loved her dearly. She saw the best in people and had many friends and family in Peterborough, Belleville, Ottawa, Lindsay, Nova Scotia, Ireland, The Netherlands and Crystal River, Florida.

Joan had a sharp mind and worked as a nurse at Civic Hospital, Ross Memorial Hospital and in a general practice. A wise woman, she offered sound advice and cared for family and friends through different medical events. She was an avid birder and camper. Gifted with great creativity, she spent her spare moments knitting, crocheting, and sewing gorgeous clothes and quilts.

We are so very grateful to Theresa, Gail, Marg, Martina, the staff at Burnham Medical Pharmacy, especially Marnie, and the Cheese Shop, for helping her to live independently at home. Thank you also to Allison for opening the window.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Comstock Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough. The service is at 2:00 p.m., with visitation prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., and the service will be livestreamed at https://ipickart.com/stream/JoanGilroy/.
