With great love, we say farewell to our dear mother and grandmother, Joan Rand Reinhardt (nee Leslie) who passed away peacefully at Southlake Residential Care Village in Newmarket, Ontario on April 17, 2023 in her 97th year.
Joan was born on August 23, 1926 to Frederick and Almeda in Kitchener, Ontario. She was the beloved wife of Jack (deceased 1987); loving mother of Leslie Ward (Glenn) and Anne; cherished Nana of Andrew (Amanda), Lindsay (Mark), Charlotte and Emily and Great Nana of Audrey and Allie; sister of Louise Graham and Kathryn Thistle. She was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law Arthur and Olive Reinhardt, David and Muereta Reinhardt, Les Graham and Graham Thistle.
Joan grew up in Peterborough, graduated from Teacher's College and taught in Hamilton and Toronto. She and Jack married in 1952 and lived in Toronto until settling in Peterborough in 1957 to raise their family. Joan and Jack were long-time members of St John’s Anglican Church. Joan was active in the Women's Art Association, the Engineer's Wives Association and the Peterborough Historical Society. She was very outgoing and creative, loved gardening, painting, writing poems and was an avid bridge player. Her favourite place was the cottage where she and Jack enjoyed entertaining and after his passing, spent countless summers there with many visits by family and friends. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and bake them her notoriously delicious pies.
Unfortunately Alzheimer's developed and full-time care was necessary for the past nine years. Thank you to all the caring staff at Southlake Residential Care Village.
A private family memorial service has been held at Little Lake Cemetery in Peterborough. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
