

– At Peterborough Regional Health Centre passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014 in his 95th year. Beloved husband of Joyce (Herbert) Ellis, father of Roderick Wylie and wife Lee, grandfather of Kathy Slinkard and of nine great grandchildren, all of Winter Haven, Florida. Dear brother of Mary Cox and Doris Snook of Toronto, uncle of Merridy Cox-Bradley and nephews Christopher and Thomas Mee. Sadly missed by all and especially by his good friends, Fran and Tim Benson, Janie and Grant Heffernan, and Maureen and Vern Mulhall. John was predeceased by his parents Dr. and Mrs. O.W. Ellis of Toronto. Special thank you to Dr. Mallory and the Palliative Care staff for their care and support. John attended Upper Canada College and upon graduation joined the R.C.A.F. in 1941. After leaving the service, he enrolled the University of Toronto and graduated in 1951 with a degree in metallurgical engineering. It was in this capacity that he was employed by the Canadian General Electric Company in Toronto, Guelph and Peterborough for 29 years. John was active in the aviation societies, both in Canada and the U.S.A. and was a founding member of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society and was the author of the Canadian Civil Aircraft register G-CAAA-CF-ACG 1920-1945. In retirement John worked in the U.S. aviation industry for six winters in Wichita, Kansas. He was a dedicated bird-watcher and a member of the Canadian Wildlife Bird Observatory in Prince Edward County. John was also a volunteer in the Medical Library of the Peterborough Civic Hospital, helping the librarian to computerize the entire library collection. Following cremation, a private family service will be held in the chapel of the Comstock Funeral Home, Peterborough. Memorial donations may be made to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre- Palliative Care Unit or St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, or a charity of your choice.
