John passed away peacefully with family by his side after a very brave 4 month battle with cancer. John was a hard working man following in his father’s foot steps as a carpenter. He loved nothing more than being with family and was the best son, brother, uncle and friend. Born in Niagara Falls, John moved to Omemee as a young boy growing up at Longfellows’ Lodge on Pigeon Lake where he spent his time swimming, boating, skating and building sandcastles and roads for his dinky cars. As he grew, his passion shifted to hockey. He played Goalie and in 1975 his Emily-Omemee Minor Hockey team won the All Ontario Championships. John loved all things sports, was a die-hard Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan, and an amazing baseball player and golfer.
John worked with his best friend Kevin building houses, barns, and stables for almost 40 years. He enjoyed taking care of his lawn and gardens and could always be found sitting by a bonfire. He helped mom and dad build their retirement home in Barry’s Bay where you could often find him at Hinterland Beach swimming with all his nieces! He was a pretty chill guy and loved life no matter what it threw at him.
Predeceased by his mom and dad Margaret and Peter Finn, John is survived by his four siblings Jimmy, Paul, Marybeth (Rob) and Elaine (Gary). His nieces Sarah (Justin) Allison (Brandan) and Michelle. His nephews Aron (Courtney), Shaun, Devon (Kate) and Dylan. His sister-in-law Brenda(Dave) and of course his beloved dog Quincy. He adored his great niece’s and nephews Aiden, Keira, Sadie, Jay, Desi and Natasha, his Aunts Shirley and Josie and many cousins.
We thank everyone at Hospice Peterborough for their care during his final hours. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. In memory of Joh, if desired donations may be made to Hospice Peterborough.
