Peacefully in her sleep on June 22nd, 2014 in her 100th year at Royal Gardens in Peterborough. Survived by her daughters Odette Burgess (Dick) and Louise, grandchildren Jenny Burgess (Mike Lloyd) and Mike Burgess, great-grandchildren David and Emily Burgess, brother Gilles Comeau and sister Colette Comeau. Predeceased by her husband John Octave Morel (1965). Marcelle was born in Farnham, Quebec on December 24, 1914 to Adelard Comeau and Albertine Audet, the fifth of eight children. A visit to a friend in Toronto in 1937 led her to settle there where she met John and worked as a translator for Canada Meat Packers Council and later, Lever Brothers. During the fifties there were many extended trips to Mexico by car with John, and then tours by air of South America and Europe. One exceptional trip covered four continents.
John and Marcelle acquired Donway Travel, Don Mills in 1960. Upon John’s death she carried on as president and served her corporate and personal clients well for many years. She considered it an achievement that she had been to over one hundred countries by the time she sold the agency in the mid-eighties. She was a member of Canadian Women in Travel and Zonta International. Upon retirement she volunteered for the North York Library. Many thanks to the staff at Royal Gardens for their care and comfort in her final years. Special thanks to Fr. Jean-Pierre Pilon of St. Mary’s Church, Campbellford, who administered the Last Rites and final blessing en français. Private arrangements entrusted to the Comstock Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 356 Rubidge Street. Private interment at Mount Hope Cemetery. Toronto, Ontario.
