1925 - 2019
Margaret Edwards, much loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at home on April 23, 2019 after a brief illness at the age of 94. Margaret was born January 31, 1925 in Eltham England and at the age of 17 joined the Women’s Royal British Navy. She was stationed, in Londonderry, Ireland where she was trained as a “torpedoman”, repairing torpedoes, depth chargers and doing electrical repairs on Canadian ships during WW II.
She married Gordon Edwards in 1947 and they immigrated to Canada in 1957 – first to British Columbia and then they settled in Peterborough, Ontario. Margaret had the good fortune to raise her children as a stay at home mother and was able to pursue her passions for gardening with her very green thumb, a baking skill that matched that of a trained pastry chef and a career as a professional knitter.
She was predeceased by her husband Gordon of 50 years, her son Colin, her sister Rose and her brothers Stan and Fred.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Vivienne Edwards, her grandsons Gregory (Tiffany) and Kyle (Deniz) Edwards, daughter in law Grace Edwards, and her two great grandchildren Lucy and Sloane Edwards
She will be remembered lovingly for her kindness, sense of humour and indomitable spirit.
Sincere thank you to the VON and the St. Elizabeth PSWs and Nurses for their care.
Arrangements entrusted to the Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.comstockkaye.com
Her life’s song may be over but her melody will live on.
