May 21, 1951 –November 19, 2024.
It is with profound sadness we announce the loss of Margaret. Margaret passed away peacefully Nov 19, 2024 at the age of 73 in Peterborough Ontario.
Beloved mother of Jerry (Teresa), Derrick (Joyce), Tamara, Melissa (Corey) and Sarah.
She was an adoring grandmother to Naiyah, Sebastian and Kailynne
Margaret was born in Toronto to Henry Hobbs and Margaret McMillan. She was big sister to David Hobbs (2024) and Cathy Hobbs (2009).
Margaret loved being a mother; she worked hard with the challenges being hard of hearing from birth brought. She essentially taught herself to lip read as her hearing loss was undiagnosed for a few of her early years.
She graduated High School in Toronto. When she talked of her school years she often talked of her love of her Spanish classes and involvement in choir.
She lived briefly in both Kingston and Belleville Ontario before settling in Peterborough Ontario in the 1970’s.
Despite her seriousness sometimes, she would chuckle at a well done “dirty” joke. Margaret had a wry sense of humour, and could also have a good laugh at some of the things she misheard as sometimes what she thought was said quite different from what was actually said.
Margaret thoroughly enjoyed music, reading, nature and chocolate, she loved her chocolate.
Despite health challenges over the last several years Margaret stayed devoted to her family and was always asking how they all were.
The family would like to thank Dr.Webster and all the nurses on D2 as well as Dr.Kristie and all the nurses on B6 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre for their compassionate care of Mom.
An enormous heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Rubidge Retirement Residence where Mom lived the last few years. They all provided excellent care and compassion to Mom and worked very hard to understand her needs. An important thank you to Ed from LHIN/ Nightingales, Margaret often talked about you and enjoyed your conversations.
The family would also like to note our appreciation to Dr.Gary Berg, her family doctor. Dr.Valerie Cheung neurologist .
Thank you to Dr.Oleg Veselskiy and Kristen Ferguson from the GAIN clinic for taking the extra time needed during consultations to understand Moms concerns.
A special note of thanks to Madu Azubuike and his whole team at the Loblaw Pharmacy. You always took the time to answer her questions, make her feel comfortable with her medications and always openly considered her concerns. Even when Margaret was no longer able to come in on her own you would always ask how she was and she was always checking to see if the staff she was familiar with was still there.
As per her request Margaret has been cremated.
A celebration of life will take place Saturday January 18, 2025 from 1pm – 3pm at the Ashburnham Funeral Home in Peterborough.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Parkinson Canada or the Canadian Hearing Society
