

She is survived by her sister, (Wilma) Ann Dawes of Washington State; her two nephews, Edward (daughter-in-law, Patti) and Anthony; her great nieces, Kylie, Corrina, and Everly; and her great nephew, Maxwell, all of Washington State.
Marlene was born in Peterborough on June 5, 1934 and is the daughter of the late Edwin John and Agnes Dulce ‘Del’ Wright. She attended elementary and high school in Peterborough and obtained her B.A. from the University of Toronto in 1955 and her master’s degree in Education a few years later.
She taught school in Peterborough for 30 years, beginning in 1963 in the Commercial Department at Crestwood High, advancing until she became vice-principal at Lakefield – the first female to hold a vice-principalship in Peterborough County at the time. She retired in 1993.
In 2022, she entered Canterbury Gardens Retirement Home where she lived until her death. Marlene led a long and productive life and will be sadly missed by family, friends, and the many students who knew her through her long career.
