It is with both deep sadness and immense love and gratitude in our hearts that the family of Mary Ann Theresa O’Neill (née McConvey) announces her passing at the age of 82 in Oakville, Ontario. An incredible mother, grandmother, wife, sister, friend and person, Mary Ann will be so very missed by all who had the pleasure of experiencing her warmth, wit and wisdom.
Mary Ann was the devoted mother of three children. She carried the memory of her late son, Patrick John, in her heart always. She is survived by her adoring children, John Jeffrey (Tina Gemmiti) and Jennifer Anne (Sean Girard) and is remembered warmly by her former spouse, Jack O’Neill, with whom she shared many meaningful years. Mary Ann was the treasured Grammy of Kennedi (Mike), Calem (Heather), Karis and Kylie (Jordan) and great-Grammy to Adyson and Carson. She was the eldest daughter of the late Paul and Elizabeth (Betty) McConvey, dear sister of Judy (Al), Jim (Betty), and Paul (Patrea) and loving aunt to her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered and deeply missed by her cherished friends and family.
Mary Ann lived her life in colour - painting her days with intellect, creativity, compassion, and courage. A nurse by training and a caregiver by nature, Mary Ann extended her skills to every corner of her life. She was her family’s greatest champion, cheering them on from the sidelines or through a facetime call and taught them, through word and example, the value of persistent, enduring love. Mary Ann found purpose as an advocate for organizations such as Kairos and the Toronto Associates and dedicated her time and kind heart to her faith community. She was a lover of conversation and brought depth to every interaction, experience and friendship she entered. Whether in her nursing career, in her role as a wife, mother and grandmother, in her travels, or in her passion for social justice, she was resilient in every season of life. Mary Ann’s legacy isn’t just in what she accomplished, but in how deeply she cared, how fiercely she loved, and how bravely she lived.
We will spend the rest of our lives missing her, but more than anything, we are grateful—to have been loved by her, to have learned from her and to have had the privilege of calling her ours.
A special thank you to her incredible Vistamere family - the staff, her tablemates and friends as well as to Dr. Pandeya, Dr. Heffernan and the 5 South nursing staff at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
