It is with great sadness we announce the loss of our beloved, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, Sister In-law and Wife. Mona Catherine Ferguson, age 90, just 8 days from her 91st birthday. Mona was born on January 31, 1931 and passed away peacefully on January 24, 2022 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Mona was the daughter of the late Robert (Bob) and Grace (McDermid) Peirson and Daughter in-law of Ernest Sr and Ruth(Martin) Ferguson. Mona raised her family and resided on Euclid Avenue for over 50 years. Their East City home on the canal bank was a social hub filled with friends, neighbours, love, laughter, and family. Famous for her fruit pies and chocolate banana cake. Volunteering was important to her. She was a 50yr+ volunteer with Community Cares’ Meals on Wheels and a longtime volunteer with the St James Church Breakfast program for King Edward and later Keith Whiteman School. In her younger years, Mona was a member of the Peterborough Figure Skating club. She completed a haircutting course, dance and art classes. She enjoyed needlepoint, and sewing. She loved camping, canoeing, swimming, country drives, picnics and family. She will be remembered as a loving and caring person always putting others before herself. Previous to health issues she was a master in the kitchen. She had so many specialties from her casseroles, roasts, meat loaf, stuffed mushroom caps, sweets, mac n cheese, trifle, cabbage rolls, chili, and chocolate chip oatmeal cookies to name a few. On special occasions she enjoyed a rye and ginger. Our family praise the hospital staff that cared for mom right up to the end. They kept her comfortable, they respected her and treated her with the utmost professionalism and compassion. Mona is survived by her Husband of 70 years and 8 months, Ernie. Her children, Heather (Donald), Cindi (Jamie) and Marcus (Cheryl). Special to her was Tish and Mike who were cared for after their fathers accident. She is predeceased by her parents Grace and Bob and her two Brothers Jack (Johanna) and Don (Eloise). Survived by Sisters-in-law, Johanna (Jack), Arlene(Doran), and Brother-in-law Wayne(Marilyn). Nana/ Nanny will be dearly missed by her Five Grandchildren, Abi, Amy, Justen (Jaquie), Jesse (Kaila), Alycia. Four Great-Grandchildren, Amera, Hayden, Indi, Jude, and Ellie, many nieces and nephews. She lived a life that was full and left us with wonderful memories. On her final morning, Daughter Cindi, Husband Ernie and Son Marcus sat with her as she quietly breathed her last breath. She is now truly at peace. The kitchen is closed. In honour of Mona a donation to a charity of your choice on her behalf. Celebration of life to be determined at a later date.
