Nancy passed peacefully in her sleep on July 25. Nancy will be missed greatly by her loving husband Bob. Devoted and caring Mother of Brad (Dina), George (Leqin) and Charlie (Hayley). Granny will be missed by Gordie, Claire, Roger, Lian and Amelia. Nancy is survived by her siblings Ann Ambler, Peter Gordon and Emily Lattion; and is predeceased by her brother George Gordon.
Nancy was born in Peterborough. She attended PCVS, Adam Scott CVI, spending summers at Camp Oconto and 80 years of cottaging on Chemong and Stony Lake. Nancy left Peterborough to study sociology at the University of Western Ontario, where she met Bob. After graduating, she worked as a social worker before becoming a schoolteacher in Toronto’s Jane-Finch neighbourhood. In 1973, with their newborn son Brad, Nancy and Bob moved to Peterborough to raise their family.
Nancy was a devoted community leader. She was a co-founder of the Peterborough Family Resource Center and helped launch several other local initiatives. She served as Chair of the Peterborough Board of Education, Chair of the Police Service Board, and Chair of the Peterborough Foundation. As member and supporter of many local boards and agencies, including Hospice Peterborough, Nancy was proud of her work supporting individuals, families and the community, both in Peterborough and beyond.
Nancy had many dear friends. She enjoyed bridge, book club, or walks throughout the neighbourhood, delighting in the chance to chat with young families and old friends. Her fondness for reading, her compassion and her humor, along with a taste for scotch mints, cupcake icing and home-made croutons, will live on for her family.
A small private family ceremony will be held at Little Lake Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to CCRC (Community Counselling Resource Center) https://www.ccrc-ptbo.com, or another grassroots Peterborough based charity.
