It is with deep sadness we announce the death of Perley Nelson Terry on Sunday, July 28, 2024,in his 97 th year, at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre in Cobourg, Ontario.
Perley ( affectionately known as “ Terry “ ) was a man who lived a simple life, very self-sufficient, and a kind human being to everyone he knew and met. Perley was born and raised in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia until he moved west to Ontario in his young adult years. Living out on the East coast of Canada, his occupation was mostly as a trucker, but when moving to Ontario he took up the trade of spot welder and was employed and worked for General Motors in Oshawa, Ontario for 31 years.
His passion was everything cars and trucks. In his retirement years, living in Campbellford, he loved to visit his favourite haunts. He frequented numerous yard sales, flea markets and eventually became a permanent fixture as a shuffleboard player at the Campbellford Senior Citizens’ Club. His daily visits to the Riverview Restaurant and Tim Horton’s ( small coffee- double cream and a raisin bran muffin) made him a known personality to all who visited these establishments regularly. Everyone loved him.
Perley was the dear son of the late Roy Terry and Eva K. Bailey. Cherished husband of the late Florence Marion ( Leech ), 30 years, andthe late Norma Josephine Hebb. Dear father to Robert Terry, Roy Max Terry ( deceased ) and Linda O’Brien, step-father to Linda Gascoyne, Reginald Davies ( Pam), Leonard Davies, Peter James Davies ( deceased ) ( Frances ) and grandfather and step grandfather to many.He will be missed by a host of dearfriends and acquaintances.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will not be any formal service. A private interment will be done at a later date.
Thank you to the staff and residents at Mapleview Retirement Residence for taking such good care of Perley. As Perley said repeatedly “ It was the best move I ever made. “
