
STEWART: Raymond Charles Albert (Pete)
The Stewart family announces with sadness the death of Pete Stewart at the age of 91 in Peterborough, ON on Thursday, September 7, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rene (nee: Watson), his daughters, Christie (Pully, Switzerland), Susan (William) Gastle (Toronto) and Jane (Peterborough) and his grandson, Angus Gastle (Halifax). He is also survived by his sister, Margaret (Carl) Switson (Scarborough). Pete was born in Battleford, SK and attended the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Manitoba, graduating in electrical engineering. He served in the Second Word War as a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. His engineering career from 1936 to 1983 with the Canadian General Electric Company in Toronto, Vancouver and Peterborough involved extensive worldwide travel, predominantly in Asia. After retirement, he continued his keen interest in education by attending Trent University and graduated with a degree in Native Studies in 1995, as the oldest graduate on record at the age of 79. Pete was a gracious gentleman and we shall miss him. Friends may call at ST. JOHN?S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 99 Brock Street, Peterborough, ON on Tuesday, September 12, from 1 p.m. for a memorial service at 2 p.m. Reception to follow.
