After a prolonged illness, our precious Robin died peacefully on March 23, 2013 in the presence of family. She will be lovingly remembered by her parents Hilda and Trevor, brothers Bryan and Glenn (Alayne), sisters Lynn (Jim) and Debra (Dean) and nieces Caitlin and Bethany; her aunt, uncle and cousins, and all of her friends that she touched with her kindness. Robin was born in Windsor, ON on January 7, 1956. A happy child and good student, she completed ten years of education in this city. She liked figure skating, crafts, swimming and hanging out with her friends. Her family moved to Peterborough, ON in 1971, where she graduated from Adam Scott High School in 1974. Robin continued her education at the Toronto institute of Medical Technology (T.I.M.T.) to become an x-ray technologist. She made many lifelong friends from her school days. After a six-month sojourn to Calgary in 1980, where she frequently x-rayed members of the Calgary Stampeders football team, Robin returned to Peterborough and continued her education to be certified as an ultrasound technologist. Employed by the Peterborough Medical Centre for 31 years, she was well liked by her patients and colleagues and made lasting friendships. Robin spent 25 years with her then partner (Steve) near Lakefield enjoying the companionship of her shelties, camping, golfing and cottage life. She rowed in the annual Dragon Boat races on Little Lake and supported the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society. After buying her own house in Peterborough in 2008, Robin joined a book club, took South American dance lessons, attended the Elvis Festival in Collingwood, holidayed in Florida and Cuba and socialized with her numerous friends. Fun and humor were staples in her life. She valued family and enjoyed attending plays with her mom and had the patience to golf with her dad. Her nieces held a special place in her heart. In May of 2012, Robin was proud to participate in the Hike For Hospice event. The Medical Centre’s Team Robin raised the most money in Peterborough and was ranked third across Canada. A special thank you to Steve, Robin’s primary caregiver this last year, who provided her with comfort and laughter. We are grateful for the many friends who supported her and the health care workers who assisted her. A celebration of Robin’s life will be held at NORTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH, 300 Sunset Blvd., with Rev. Marienus “Mir” Kenniphaas officiating on Saturday, April 6, 2013. Visitation to be held from 9:30 am – 11:00 am, with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM. Reception to follow. A private interment will take place at Lakefield Cemetery. Messages and condolences may be left online at www.kayefuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, Robin requested that memorial gifts be made to the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society (LAWS), PO Box 9, Lakefield, ON, K0L 2H0; www.lakefieldanimalwelfare.org)
