Ruth was born in Novar, Ontario where she lived at home with her Mom and Dad, and six brothers. She was a special big sister, and a great helper to her Mom on the farm and caring for all those boys. She was not allowed to attend school in those days as she had epilepsy. She was the daughter of William Ferguson Maw and Ruby Mae Maw (nee Devitt) of Novar, Ontario. She was the favourite sister of Edgar (Winnifred ) of Peterborough, Harold, Albert (Sylvia) of Burk’s Falls, Beverly (Nancy) of Brantford, Kenneth (Janet) of Kenora and Gerald (Ilee ) of Huntsville. She was predeceased by her parents, and her brothers, Harold, Edgar, and Gerald, and her sister-in-law and friend Sylvia. She will be missed by her many Nieces and Nephews who grew up with her as a special Aunty Ruth, who welcomed them all with hugs and humour whenever they visited their Grandparents at the farm. When her parents had both passed, she was 50 years old. She moved to Peterborough where she lived with Edgar and Winnie, on their farm, and with their support and the team at Adult Protective Services (APS) she learned to be more independent and eventually moved into her own apartment. She was very proud to attend the same college, Sir Sandford Fleming College, as one of her nephews, where she learned the life skills to manage on her own and to be able to get around on the city buses. That changed her life a lot as she was able to go shopping and enjoyed the APS group meetings, dances and bowling with a group of good friends and the great people at the APS. In 2009, after recovering from a serious illness, she moved into senior care. She became a much loved and tenderly cared-for resident of the Springdale Country Manor in Peterborough and enjoyed their friendship and support. By her wishes, Ruth will be cremated and an interment service will be held at the Hutchison Memorial Cemetery in Huntsville when we are able to gather in her memory. As her family, we thank the management and staff at the Springdale County Manor for that love and care they showed her, filling her last years with a homey, comfortable feeling of family. And we thank the Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre for their kindness and assistance with their easy electronic technology as we were unable to make arrangements in person.
