She is the loving and dedicated wife of Bernie Mielke. They have been married for 41 years and would have continued for another 41! Bernie and Ruth led a simple but impactful life in Millbrook. Generous with their resources and time always.
She is preceded in death by her father, Vernon Young, and mother, Marjorie (Smart) Young.
She leaves behind her older brother David, his partner Donna (Santocono), as well as their children and grand-children.
As well, her brother in law, Ron, her friend Lyne, and their children will miss her terribly.
Also, Anita (Zeller), her sister in law who lives in Germany, along with her husband Gerhard and their children will miss Ruth's smile when they visit Canada.
Ruth’s church family at Christian Victory in Peterborough will feel a gap as she was part of the many ministries there. Over the years, Ruth has always volunteered her time at the churches that she attended. Ruth was a great asset to any team and her loss will be felt by many.
Ruth's longest career is her church work. She was also employed by Paul L'Anglais Inc. in the '80's and 90's. She was a Sales Assistant providing administrative support with great accuracy and always with a welcoming smile. She also worked at Olde Silver Thimble in the late '90's, a quilt shop in Whitby, where her organization and computer skills were appreciated by all.
Ruth was a beautiful seamstress, quilter, cross stitcher, puzzle solver, and card game player, especially Canasta. Ruth enjoyed desk top publishing as well as all things computers. And let's not forget her love of Star Trek, Star Wars, and other fantasy movies/series. She especially loved The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe series - to read or watch. She will also be very happy to be reunited with her feline babies, Cinder, Jamoca, Friskie, and Oscar.
Ruth's celebration of life will be held at Christian Victory Church (520 Brealey Dr., Peterborough) at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 9th, 2025. The service will be followed by light refreshments at the church.

1“Don’t worry or surrender to your fear. For you’ve believed in God, now trust and believe in me also. 2My Father’s house has many dwelling places. If it were otherwise, I would tell you plainly, because I go to prepare a place for you. 3And when everything is ready, I will come back and take you to myself so that you will be where I am.4And you already know the way to the place where I’m going.”
John 14:1-4 TPT
4Do not fear, for your shame is no more.
Do not be embarrassed,
for you will not be disgraced.
You will forget the inadequacy you felt in your youth
and will no longer remember the shame of your widowhood.
5For your Maker is your husband;
his name is Yahweh, Commander of Angel Armies!
Your Kinsman-Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel!
He has the title Mighty God of All the Earth!
6For I, Yahweh, have invited you to come back
like a depressed, deserted wife.
Like a young wife who has experienced rejection,
I am drawing you back to me,” says Yahweh.
Isaiah 53:4-6 TPT
