Carole, I just heard of the passing of Sam and am so sorry to hear the news.  Please accept my heartfelt condolences, and I want you to know my thoughts are with you.

We had some good times together when we first met at CIBC and I have some very fond memories of the years spent at the cottage in Bobcaygeon when you and Sam would come to visit us.  Take care

I was saddened to learn that Sam passed away and I extend to Carole, Rana and the rest of Sam's family my deepest sympathy and condolences in their loss.

Sam and I worked together some 40 years ago in Hong Kong where we established the Area Office of CIBC for the Asia Pacific Region. He most certainly was a dedicated, knowledgeable banker, a hard worker, and a gentleman at all times.

After I left CIBC in 1984, we lost touch with each other, but he will be fondly remember by me as he was a good friend.

May he rest in peace.

While I have wanted to write a message, I was unable to find the words until now. Seeing all the wonderful photos of Dad, thoughtfully selected by Carole, made it very clear that he had truly lived a full life - one of adventure, excitement and love. He has always been the calm, rational, thoughtful presence in my life and I know that he will continue to be. I will miss him dearly.

I will miss you Sam, always there to help me when I needed it, which was often.

Some of my favourite memories are of summer's spent with you and Aunt Carole at the barn. You were so warm, always smiling and you had this way of making us feel welcome and loved. I still remember you never let Cameron get away with pestering me, and you'd wink at me as he'd run off to do something else. I always loved you for that. 

I'll miss you and think of you often, thank you for the wonderful memories, I carry them with me.

Aunt Carole, I love you and I'm thinking of you. Can't wait to give you a hug.

Sam worked 25 years for CIBC and I had the pleasure of working with Sam in Hong Kong and Singapore as well as Toronto. Sam was one of CIBC's  true international bankers. He will be remembered by his colleagues for his wealth of knowledge, sound judgement and always ready to provide assistance and expert advice. We all shall miss him but never forget him.

Many memories of our childhood Sam,growing up in Holland,and then we both began a new life in Canada.
Although we have been separated by distance Sam,as brothers we have always stayed in tough by mail,phone or skype and I enjoyed our many good conversations and laughter over the years.I will miss your voice and the opportunity to hear it,but we will still have our conversations Sam,so until we meet again,"REST IN PEACE SAM"

What a terrible message about Sam. A lot of memories of our Schoolperiod in the beginning of the fifty's arised. He was a good friend. Sleep well my dear friend !!  Rest in peace. Sam, although we had not seen you recently you were always in our thoughts.  I recall many summers spent with you Aunt Carole, Grandma and Grandpa.  Those memories will endure and I will share them with my children as they grow up.

Although we have not seen each other for many years, the tie of friendship was still holding tight. Therefore it filled us with great sadness when we received the news that Sam had passed away. He will always live in our hearts.

We were so very sorry to hear the sad news about Sam.  Although growing up in Holland as first cousins in the same town  Heemstede - we really did not get to know each all that well until, by pure coincidence,  some 20years later, we ended up living in the same town together,  in Oakville, in the early 70's. Even then our acquaintance would be brief, but long enough to find out we had some common interests. Also by coincidence, we both pursued an undergraduate degree on a part-time basis through York's University within a few years of each other. With only sporadic contact over the years, we had the pleasure of Sam and Carole dropping by our home here on the West Coast in the early 90's. While we were fortunate to see them again and daughter Rana at their home The Old Barn in Buckhorn in August of 1997, I really do regret that this was the very last time that Sam and I were together.

With an enormous sense of regret, we heard from Klaas what happened to Sam, so very unexpected for us.

We present You, and all other family members, our very best condolences.

With this lost a lot of youth memories came back to me. From the playing in the communal wood and the awful happenings of world war 2, when the western part of the Netherlands was suffering of famine. Sufficient memories for a book.
