We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to share that Scott Murray has passed away suddenly from an unexpected condition on November 6, 2021 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. The family is so thankful to the emergency responders, nurses and doctors who did everything possible to save Scott and provided comfort and support to Tina in the aftermath of his death.
Scott leaves grieving his beloved wife, best friend and soul mate, Tina (nee Buhlman); his precious sons, Declan and Callum; his parents Michael and Susan, sisters Zoe, Chrystal and Sapphire and their families; his parents-in-law, Ian and Phyllis Phaure and Dave Buhlman and Mary Ellen Hurren; siblings-in-law Wendy Buhlman (Robin Stewart) and Lori Buhlman (Kyle Shay); nephews Caleb and Kieran Stewart; and his ever-present and loyal pups Jenna and Kalliope. Scott will be missed and mourned by countless friends and acquaintances.
Scott was an amazing husband – supportive, funny, devoted and loving. Tina and Scott shared many inside jokes that always brought both of them so much laughter and joy. They weathered many challenges over their 18 years together, always with perseverance and grace, coming out the other side stronger than ever. They stood by each other through life’s many ups and downs, always adding to the strong foundation they had built together. They loved spending time together whether is was travelling the world, having quiet evenings at home watching their favourite shows, or spending time playing with their sons.
Scott was a devoted father and was the primary caregiver to their 2 sons Declan and Callum. He loved sharing his passions with his boys; introducing them to the Marvel Universe, Magic the Gathering, all his favourite movies, playing video games together, reading favourite books and countless hours of puzzles, Lego and games.
Scott was wonderfully generous, never missing even the smallest detail and would find ways to bring joy to the people in his life with little gifts that showed just how much he really cared for and loved them. Scott loved giving gifts to others and he never missed an opportunity to put a smile on the face of someone he loved. He will be missed especially by his nephew Caleb, who shared his passion for his cousin Sean’s Restarter book series; thanks to Scott’s dedication, he and Caleb were the proud owners of the very first copies of the newest books before the author himself even had them.
Scott enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 22 in 2008, as a Canadian Infantry Soldier from the Royal Canadian Regiment. He served in Afghanistan as part of the Police Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (POMLT), a specialized unit that was tasked with training and mentoring the Afghan Uniformed Police in the violent and volatile Zhari District of war-torn Kandahar Province. During his tour of duty, Scott’s bravery, courage and willingness to risk his life for his colleagues, the AUP and his country earned him the respect and commendation of his fellow soldiers and commanding officers alike. Scott was described by his peers as calm, loyal, selfless and they often recounted situations where Scott put the lives of others ahead of his own and indeed saved the lives of several of his fellow soldiers. Scott was awarded a Sacrifice Medal in recognition of his bravery and service and retired from the military in 2010 after being wounded in combat.
Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Scott can give to Wounded Warriors, a cause that was close to Scott’s heart. Alternately, donations to Declan and Callum Murray can be made to support their ongoing care and future education - please contact [email protected] for further details.
Family and friends will be received at ASHBURNHAM FUNERAL HOME, 840 Armour Road on Wednesday November 24, 2021 from 10 - 11 am followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 11:00. Reception to follow. Proof of double vaccination and valid photo ID are required for entry.
