Tom passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, March 06, 2026, at the age of 70, after a lifetime struggle with Colitis and a brief battle with Colon Cancer.
Husband and best friend to Gayle (Carman). Predeceased by his parents Patrick and Joan (Leal) Maloney, son-in-law to Harold and Alice (Clemenger) Carman, and brother-in-law to Carl Carman. Survived by his brother Graydon “Duff” (Jan) Maloney. Sister-in-law Karen Walker, brother-in-law John (Tracy) Carman. Tom loved “HIS GIRLS” nieces Krista (Robert) Cooney, Kayla and Abby Carman. Nephews Jamie (Laurie) Maloney, Adam and Ian Carman. Proud Great Uncle to Alyssa Maloney, Autumn, Brody and Melody Carman, Nolan and Casey Cooney.
A retired electrician of over 30 years, he was the first person to help friends with any electrical needs.
Tom was an athlete and a lover of all sports. In younger years you could find him behind the plate catching for many different softball teams. He also played hockey and enjoyed golfing. An avid fan of the Montreal Expo’s and only recently gave up on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Many times Tom thanked Greg Hartwick for getting him involved with coaching kids hockey in Norwood. He loved the kids and liked to think he made a difference in their lives. After stepping back from coaching, he spent time as a spectator following the kids in local arenas.
Tom spent many hours on his John Deere riding mower and had a special wardrobe for the occasion consisting of boxer shorts or coveralls, and his “Nanny knit socks”. His gear when snow blowing was his Reggie coat and coon skin hat.
Tom lived life on his own terms. He was a straight-shooter, a kind man with a good heart, and had a good sense of humour. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and the odd illegal smile.
Lucky was the word he used when describing his healthcare support. Sue and the girls at in viva, Dr. Andrea Melicharkova, Dr. Ryan Hutcheson, Dr. Christopher Blake and his palliative team, Dr. Kelly Parks, PRHC Palliative, all his great nurses Dawna, Kimberly, Susan and Jody. And everyone in between.
In keeping with Tom’s wishes there will be a private celebration of life on the farm at a later date.
If desired, donations to Norwood Minor Hockey would be appreciated.
