Velma Ruth Stewart

Passed away suddenly on Tuesday Oct 22, in her 94th year, at PRHC with daughter and son by her side. Predeceased by husband Reg (2010). Loving Mother of Lori Servage (Barry) and Greg Stewart. Special Grandmother to Greg and Jana Servage and Great Grandmother to Leo Servage. Fondly remembered by Terry and Eleanor Stanley and family of Cobourg, and Linda and Carl Foster of Oshawa. Predeceased by sister Grace Stanley (Neil). Sister of Clinton Stewart (Hazel –deceased). Velma was a founding member of Telecare where she volunteered for 30 years and was the Director for 7 years. She also was a member of the Palliative Care Group at Civic Hospital for a number of years. A lifetime member of the United Church of Canada, she served on the Boards of both Knox and George Street Churches and was an avid member of both choirs for 65 years. She was a recipient of a Peterborough Civic Award for her volunteer work in the Community. A special thank you to the staff of Applewood Residence where she enjoyed the last 4 years, with special appreciation to Deb for her ongoing kindness. Deb, we know Mom loved you. Appreciation to Dr Kathiravelu and a special thanks to Dr. Roger Holmes who was her Doctor for over 40 years. Velma was a happy spirit and made a host of wonderful friends over her long journey and often said how blessed she was for this. “A life well lived through good times and bad.” She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother is who now watching over us from heaven…..RIP. At her request cremation has taken place and a private family service will follow. In lieu of flowers or donations, Velma’s wish was that you please hug a friend and remember her in this way.
